"I’m a bohemian kind of girl. I like ethnic caftans and flip-flops. I'm a surfer girl."
Born in Israel and raised partly in Fairfield County, Connecticut, Sari Gueron is all about the fuss-free, comfortable yet chic type of clothing. Growing up a tomboy, wearing mostly jeans and shirts, Gueron chose to study fashion at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). In 1997 she graduated from RISD and over the next six years she would intern and work for well known designers like John Galliano, Robert Danes, and Oscar de la Renta. By 2003 she was armed with the knowledge she needed to start her own label. It wasn’t until a couple years later in spring 2005 when she launched her new collection at the St Regis hotel in New York City that she became an immediate success. The collection had a mystical and ethereal tone with her 13 dresses, freely flowing and draped while containing silks, crepe chiffons, and lacey details; nods to the 20s and 30s. Within months her designs were being sold at Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Ave. All the while her popularity grew quickly thanks to her celebrity following, and some of MyCloset’s favorite young fashionistas: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Michelle Williams, and Sophia Coppola. As a designer Gueron has an eye for details, giving her designs from jackets, to skirts, to her signature dresses a modern yet bohemian feel that truly flatters the female form; something a surfer or tomboy might consider wearing.
Sari Gueron's fun, sexy line encourages women to mix and match. Her muses for her Spring/Summer 2008 line are Brigitte Bardot and African masks and prints.
