very year Key West hosts an all out spectacular street fair called Fantasy Fest®. The ten day long celebration kicks off with Goombay, a traditional Caribbean street party and ends with a massive parade flanked by 70,000 partygoers from around the world. Some of the festivities that partygoers participated in were a leather fetish party, a Booty Party, homemade bikini contest & beach party, a celebrity look-a-like contest, a pimp and ho party and a monster’s ball complete with mermaids, sea serpents and other bizarre creatures of the deep. The weekend culminated to the famed Captain Morgan Fantasy Fest Parade which was viewed by thousands of exuberant on-lookers flanking both sides of Duval Street. The parade featured fabulous glittering floats, dance groups and marching bands. Because the famous festival also coincides with Halloween, you get double the fantastic costumes. Every conceivable theme could be found, from body painted costumes, to pirates, indians, superheroes, to the political candidates. There was an elaborate and extremely creative costume at every turn. The meticulously applied body paint could hardly be distinguished from actual clothing. Several attendees donned little more than body paint and small pieces of fabric used discreetly to cover certain bodyparts. It was definitely anything goes!
