oday, Harris says they’ve done what they’ve set out to do. With animal print beds in red, beige and black and white faux fur, owners can match their dog beds to their own, wild home décor. Collars and leashes come in every pattern: polka dots, flowers, stripes, and even bright squirrel themes. Since this is San Francisco, NVPC even carries a line of Hemp collars and leashes.

Stacked in the corner, in a shabby chic shelf adorned with dog-themed antiques, stylish pet owners find sweaters for the smaller set of canines in fleece, argyle, mock mohair, cable knits, and plaids with wooden buttons.

““Knits that are colorful and durable. It doesn’t have to cost a lot,” says Harris, who’s Jewish, and makes sure to stock enough Hanukkah-related merchandise to please clients who want seasonal accessories for their pets, such as a squeaky menorah or fuzzy dreidel.

They also stock cat gear for owners looking to accessorize their cats at home, everything from cat nip pipes for the civilized cat to peacock feathers for the fun feline.

“We want everyone to be comfortable,” Harris explains. She barely has time to get that thought out before she has to go help another customer. Clearly, the NVPC vision is working. There’s a constant stream of customers who walk in – on both two legs and four.
