elly Rowland was born Kalendria Trene Rowland on Feburary 11th 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia. Like most aspiring singers, once she heard the legendary Whitney Houston she was inspired. Kelly began singing herself and joined the church choir, much like her idol once did! After her family moved from Atlanta to Houston, Texas Rowland met her future BFF, one Beyonce Knowles. They hit it off immediately and became fast friends. By the early 90s, they were performing together in the group Girl’s Tyme with four others. The group even ended up on the talent show “Star Search”. Then in 1997 Girl’s Tyme changed their name to Destiny’s Child when they finally signed a record deal with Columbia. The next year, their first album, “Destiny’s Child” released and by 2000 their second album “The Writing’s on the Wall” became a huge success, reaching number 5 on the Billboard 200 and selling over 11 million copies worldwide, making it one of the top selling album’s that year.

By now Kelly Rowland is a household name thanks to the group’s breakthrough album and the numerous awards they received for it. Next up, they released a third album, the popular “Survivor”. At this point, the group decided to take a break and start work on their own projects. Soon after Rowland released “Simply Deep” and her international career took off, as her album hit number one on the UK music charts. Branching out from the music scene, in 2002 Kelly was seen in the TV Show “The Hughleys” and the next year a starring role in the horror flick, “Freddy VS Jason”. In 2004, Destiny’s Child went back into the studio to record their final album together “Destiny Fulfilled”. Rowland stuck with her career as a solo artist and has since released three more albums; “Ms. Kelly”, “Here I Am” and “Talk a Good Game”. During her breaks from recording, she continued to appear on TV and in films, staying busy and making a name for herself.
