DESIGNER'S DOORWAY

Sue Stemp

Of the people you would like to dress, what pieces fit certain personalities?
SS: I THINK LILLY ALLEN WOULD LOOK COOL IN THE STRAPLESS BLACK “COSMIC” DRESS WITH THE SASH AROUND HER WAIST. TILDA SWINTON WOULD LOOK GREAT IN THE BLACK COAT WITH TRIM OR FITTED JACKET WITH HAND QUILTING. WHETHER THEY ARE FAMOUS OR NOT, THE SILHOUETTES SUIT MANY DIFFERENT BODY TYPES AND STYLISTICALLY IT’S FEMININE, WITH A SLOUCHY SEXINESS, WHILST RETAINING AN UNDERCURRENT OF ROCK N’ ROLL GLAMOUR.
What’s your advice on how to keep clothes well over the years. Any closet advice?
SS: I WISH SOMEONE WOULD TELL ME! ALL MY FAVORITE OLD PIECES IN MY WARDROBE ARE PRETTY MUCH WRECKED. I REALLY BELIEVE CLOTHES ARE TO BE WORN….JUST TRY NOT TO SPILL RED WINE ON THEM.

What has been your biggest fashion faux-pas?
SS: WHEN I WAS QUITE YOUNG I MADE A PAIR OF HAREM PANTS FROM A REALLY OLD PAIR OF BEAUTIFUL BROCADE CURTAINS. AS THE NIGHT WORE ON (AND OF COURSE I DIDN’T NOTICE), THE FABRIC JUST ROTTED AWAY. THEY ALMOST TOTALLY DISINTEGRATED…I PRETTY MUCH WAS LEFT WITH JUST A WAISTBAND.
