Any closet regrets? Things you wished you still had?

CA: THERE ARE SOME THINGS I’M REALLY SAD… I GOT RID OF PERRY ELLIS LITTLE CROPPED TOPS, BOLERO TYPE JACKETS THAT WENT WITH A HIGH WAIST. YOU CAN SEE WITH LUCA LUCA. HE’S GOING REALLY HIGH WAISTED AGAIN.
THE PERRY ELLIS TOPS FROM THE EIGHTIES WERE BEAUTIFUL. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THEY WENT. I’M SURE I DONATED THEM. AFTER FIFTEEN YEARS, YOU FIGURE EVEN IF SOMETHING DOESN’T COME BACK, IT’S GOING TO RETURN SO CHANGED THAT IT’S NOT GOING TO BE WORTH HAVING THE ORIGINAL. THEY WERE WITHOUT SHOULDER PADS, SIMPLE. ONE TURTLENECK, ONE BUTTON DOWN. ONE WAS BURGUNDY. ONE WAS GREEN. PERRY ELLIS GAVE THEM TO ME AS A GIFT. I AM SO UPSET, BUT I’VE MOVED QUITE A LOT. THIS IS A NOMAD TYPE BUSINESS.

Where are you based now?

CA: I’M BASED IN NEW YORK AGAIN. BUT I WAS IN AFRICA FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. I WAS IN TORONTO . I LIVED IN OTTAWA WITH MY BOYFRIEND AND TRAVELED EVERYWHERE.

Any advice on storage?

CA: THE BEST THINGS ARE VACUUM BAGS THAT SUCK OUT ALL THE AIR. RODENTS GET INTO THINGS WHEN YOU STORE THEM IN STORAGE ROOMS. BUT THOSE BAGS ARE THE BEST INVENTIONS BECAUSE THEY SQUEEZE EM DOWN SMALL. YOU DON’T EVEN NEED TO PUT THEM IN A STORAGE ROOM. YOU CAN PUT THEM RIGHT INTO YOUR BED.

How would you describe your personal style, maybe how it’s changed over the years, from when you started modeling until now?

CA: WHEN I WAS MODELING, I WALKED AROUND IN SWEATPANTS, LITERALLY. YOU’D DO A COVER AND THEY’D ASK YOU TO HOLD AN ICE CREAM CONE AND IT WOULD SPILL ON YOUR BRAND NEW ITALIAN PANTS, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO WEAR GOOD STUFF ANYMORE.
IN THE NINETIES, EVERYONE WENT IN CHANEL AND GUCCI. NOBODY WENT IN JUST SWEATS ANYMORE. AND NOW MY STYLE IS A CLASSIC SEXY. IT’S ALWAYS REMAINED.

What is your biggest fashion faux pas?

CA: I HAD THOSE MOROCCAN PANTS THAT CAME DOWN REALLY LOW, TO YOUR KNEES AND THEY HAD LITTLE SHORT LEGS. I REALLY DID TRAVEL WITH THE FASHION. WHEN YOU GO OUT, YOU ARE IN THE MOMENT OF THAT FASHION. I THINK HEADBANDS ARE THE WORST. I DON’T’ MIND A FASHIONABLE HEADBAND, BUT A HEADBAND LIKE THAT WAS SO OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN.

If there’s a trend or era that you could bring back, what would it be?

CA: WE ARE MIXING SOMETHING FROM EVERY ERA NOW. IT’S NOT LIKE YOU CAN’T WEAR CAPRI PANTS FROM THE FIFTIES, OR BELL-BOTTOMS FROM THE SIXTIES.. I THINK IT IS A GREAT TIME IN FASHION BECAUSE WHATEVER YOU HAVE IN YOUR CLOSET CAN BE SIMPLY AND EASILY MODIFIED TO FIT TODAY’S STYLE, EXCEPT BIG SHOULDER PADS.

Favorite pair of jeans?

CA: I HAVE A PAIR OF LEVIS I BOUGHT THE FIRST DAY I STARTED MODELING. THEY MUST BE 501S FROM 1979. THEY HANG LOW. THEY ARE COMPLETELY RIPPED.
