When you travel, what kinds of things do you shop for?

I SHOP SMALL BOUTIQUES THAT HAVE ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECES. IT’S AN EXTRA PLUS WHEN I CAN MEET OTHER DESIGNERS THAT DO WHAT I DO. I TRY TO HELP THEM BY BUYING FROM THEM. I WANT TO KEEP THE DESIGN COMMUNITY ALIVE. I WANT TO HELP COUTURE DESIGNERS. IT’S A DYING ART.

Do you have a favorite t-shirt with a slogan on it – and what does it say?

I DON’T HAVE ANY SLOGAN T-SHIRTS. I DON’T WEAR ANYTHING WITH LOGOS ON IT, PROBABLY BECAUSE I CAME FROM A GRAPHIC DESIGN BACKGROUND. IT’S ALL A WALKING ADVERTISEMENT.

What’s the dominant color in your closet – and why?

I HAVE A LOT OF CREAM AND CAMEL. THESE COLORS MAKE ME FEEL COMFORTABLE AND LOWER MY STRESS LEVEL. COLORS CAN DO THAT. WHEN I’M LOW ON ENERGY, I WEAR RED. STRONGER COLORS LIFT MY ENERGY

I love working with a lot of different kinds of fabrics: taffeta, duchess, and I think silks are most luxurious. For spring, I’m working with tea colors – like afternoon tea.

What part of a body has to look good – no matter what you’re wearing?

YOUR FEET. YOUR SHOES. THAT FINISHES IT. IT’S NOT FINISHED UNLESS THAT’S DONE RIGHT.

If you could try any profession in the world – for one day – what would it be? (And what would your wardrobe look like for that?)

I WOULD WANT A JOB THAT ALLOWS ME TO TRAVEL, BUT NOT A FLIGHT ATTENDANT. I’D WANT TO BE AN EXPLORER, LIKE MARCO POLO. I WANT TO DISCOVER. I WOULD WEAR MORE KNITS AND LAYERS FOR THE WEATHER.
